Irrigation Tips:
Why do you need a Professional?
Anyone can buy products and install a irrigation system, however not everyone can install a trouble free system and make it perform at maximum efficiency. It take a professional, with distinct skills and knowledges to properly design an irrigation system.
How do I stop my sprinkler from misting?
Misting is caused by excessive water pressure at the nozzle. The solution of reducing water pressure at the nozzle is simple enough, but take sometime to evaluate the situation before taking steps to eliminate the problem. If the whole irrigation system is subject to excessive pressure , the best and simplest solution is to install a new or adjust an existing pressure reducer to the proper pressure ranges recommended by the nozzle manufacturer.
If just the irrigation zone is subject to excessive pressure , examine the valve. Some valves are available with pressure regulation options. Adjust the regulation device if it's installed. If one was not installed on the valve, try turning down the flow control stem until misting disappears.
How do I determine the flow for the zone? Count up the number of sprinklers in the zone. Multiply this by the GPM specified by your nozzle for the operating pressure. If this exceeds the flow of the valve , consider adding another valve to overcome the problem. |
How can I trouble shoot my Controller? If you controller has stopped operating, often it can be brought back to operation by removing all power (including battery), check the power source , waiting a few minutes and then restoring power. If this does not work for you, pick up the phone and call for professional landscaper. |
Why do my sprinklers look weak? Check the water source. Is the water clean? Check a few sprinkler head filters. If the filters are clean then the problem is one of pressure or flow.

Garden Tips:
Seeding
There are three basic things you need to do to get good results when planting grass seed: Buy good seed. Prepare the soil properly. Keep it moist after planting. These are described in detail below. NOTE: In warm-winter climates with lawns of St. Augustine, Bermuda grass, Bahia grass, Centipede grass, and Zoysia , you will need to plant sprigs, plugs, or sod.
The Proper Time To Fertilize
Fertilize one month after the lawn starts growing . Use a fertilizer with a high percentage of slow-release nitrogen like 16-6-8. The nitrogen(16) promotes growth and a healthy green color. Phosphorus(6) is essential for the growth of the root system. Potassium(8) enables your lawn to resist disease.
Fertilize evenly. Heavy concentrations of fertilizer can cause spots. Follow package directions closely. A general rule is one pound of nitrogen per 1000 square feet of lawn. Fertilizing at a heavier rate is actually bad for your lawn. Most fertilizers require a normal watering schedule of one inch of water per week. Granular fertilizers may require a watering immediately after fertilization.
Weed Control
Can still be accomplished as long as the weeds are actively growing. In parts of the country where the temperature is not in the 90s, it's still okay to apply Scotts Step 2 or Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control - although Bonus S should be used on southern lawns of St.Augustinegrass,Zoysia,Carpetgrass. (Be sure to read the directions on the bag.) You may also wait until Fall to apply these products, when daytime temperatures are cooler and weeds start growing again.
Watering
Watering your lawn is an important consideration in the Summer . You never know how much you're going to need, because it is so dependent on the weather. If it doesn't rain for a week or more, watering once or twice a week is a good idea . Keep in mind that occasional deep watering is better than frequent quick sprinkling.
Mowing
Proper mowing can mean the difference between a so-so lawn and a great one. How high to mow? Grass generally performs best when mowed at one of the higher settings on your mower -- especially in hot summer weather . Avoid scalping at all costs. Never cut off more than 1/3 of the length of the grass blades in a single mowing. If lawn growth gets ahead of you, mow it at a higher length, then lower blade and mow again a few days later.
Blade sharpness keep mower blade sharp. Mowing with a dull blade tears the end of grass blades, leaving ragged ends which later turn brown, giving the lawn a dried-out look. Such grass blade damage also encourages the spread of fungus disease.
How often to mow ? Once a week is usually sufficient. In Spring, when grass is growing more rapidly, mowing twice a week may sometimes be necessary, to avoid removing more than 1/3 the length of the grass.
